Electrification and superconductivity: the next paradigm of road transport ? – DQMP Seminar

Published on September 24, 2018

The electrification of road transport promises higher power efficiency combined with the opportunity of using energy from renewable sources. Fuel cell technology is expected to provide solutions to the issues of the electric vehicles currently on the market, mainly related to the limited range of autonomy and the battery charging time.

The Swiss company Green GT develops racing cars powered by cells fueled by liquid hydrogen. This type of “power” hydrogen propulsion is now of interest to major players of logistics and retail such as UPS and Amazon, and, in Switzerland, Migros and Coop, who are thinking of adopting this technology for their delivery vehicles.

Could we make another step forward and exploit the cryogenic temperatures of liquid hydrogen to cool down a superconducting motor ? What would be the advantages ?

The DQMP invites you to a seminar on
