Applied Superconductivity Group has received a contract from Bruker EAS G.m.b.H, Hanau, Germany
In the field of Nb3Sn superconductor metrology, the University of Geneva, Department of Applied Physics, Applied Superconductivity Group, under the responsibility of Dr. C. Senatore, is a certified partner of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER). Bruker EAS G.m.b.H is the leading European company for the manufacturing of technical superconductors like NbTi, Nb3Sn and also for high temperature superconductors.
Bruker EAS will deliver 37 tons of Nb3Sn conductors for the ITER project. In the last six months, the University of Geneva has received two contracts for the measurement of hysteresis losses of Nb3Sn wires. Such measurements are carried out with a precisely calibrated vibrating sample magnetometer (VMS) at 4.2 K and a magnetic field of ± 3 T. These investigations are particularly important for the functioning of ITER.
